U.S. Marshals Arrest Final Two Suspects in Quadruple Homicide

On November 6th, 2008 the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Fugitive Task Force (GCVFTF) arrested Pedro Duran, 32, at the Palace Inn, in Houston, Texas. Also, on November 6th, 2008 the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) arrested Renil Escobar-Rivera, 29, in the 2100 block of Trinity Street, San Antonio, Texas. Both subjects were the final two at-large suspects in a recent quadruple homicide.

On October 30th, 2008 detectives with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office allege that Duran, Escobar-Rivera and three other subjects were involved in the shootout that took place at Gomez’s bar in Marrero, Louisiana. During the shootout four people were killed, including the bar’s owner. The three other suspects were arrested shortly after the shootout by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office. However, detectives later discovered that Duran and Escobar-Rivera fled the area immediately after the shootout occurred. This information was gleaned from an anonymous Crimestoppers tip that placed Duran and Escobar-Rivera in Texas.

On November 1st, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office requested apprehension assistance from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF), in New Orleans, LA. New Orleans task force members enhanced and expanded information in the Crimestoppers tip. Leads were sent to the GCVFTF and the LSFTF pertaining to both subjects respectively. Pedro Duran was arrested at the Palace Inn, in Houston, Texas. Later that evening Renil Escobar-Rivera was arrested in the 2100 block of Trinity Street, San Antonio, Texas.

The U.S. Marshals Service Eastern District of Louisiana (EDLA) sponsored Crescent Star Fugitive Task Force (CSFTF) established itself in 1999 and is currently receiving extra support from the U.S. Attorney General and U.S. Department of Justice to fight post Hurricane Katrina violent crime and locate sexual predators in the New Orleans metro area. Current CSFTF members include the New Orleans Police Department, the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Probation and Parole, U.S. Border Patrol and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Other New Orleans metro area law enforcement agencies participating on a case by case basis include: Bogalusa Police Department, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Social Security OIG .
