Baton Rouge Murder Suspect Arrested in Memphis |
|
Memphis, TN – A fifteen month run from
the law ended last night in Memphis for a Baton Rouge murder suspect.
Donovan Springer has been wanted by the Baton Rouge Police Department since
the July 28, 2007 incident that left one victim dead and another wounded.
The Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force had been actively searching for
Springer, even placing his profile on the U.S. Marshals, America’s Most
Wanted, and Crime Stoppers of Baton Rouge websites, but missed him several
times. MLFTF Investigators obtained information that Springer was living in
the Memphis area and was using several aliases to avoid being located. The
search heated up a few weeks ago when it was learned that Springer took the
name of “Joseph Nelson” and had even obtained a Tennessee driver’s license
in that name. The MLFTF requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task
Force in Memphis to track Springer down and end his run. The Mid-South
Fugitive Task Force began an intensive investigation to located Springer and
found him hiding in the closet of a bedroom in an associate’s home in
Memphis.
“This fugitive took several measures to remain a free man. The team in
Memphis and our investigators worked extremely hard to ensure that he will
not cause any more crime on our streets.” said U.S. Marshal Carey Jenkins.
The Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force, coordinated by the U.S. Marshals
Service, is a multi-agency task force that targets persons wanted for
violent crimes, narcotic offenses, and sex offenders in the Capitol area and
surrounding Parishes. Participating agencies are the Ascension Sheriff’s
Office, the Baton Rouge Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s
Office, the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana State Probation and
Parole, and the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. For more
