Cleveland,
OH – On the afternoon of October 9, 2008 at approximately 3:00 PM, the
U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with officers
from the Cleveland Police Department, apprehended fugitive David Tate on
East 65th Street in Cleveland. Tate (age 23) was the third male in a trio
that are suspects in a series of robberies ranging from Euclid to Cleveland.
Earlier this month, Arsenio Winston and Marshal
Butts were taken into custody by members of the Task Force, the Cleveland
Police Department, and the Euclid Police Department. Tate was the lone
member that was actively evading arrest by hiding in various locations that
stretched as far east as Painesville, Ohio. The three men were being sought
for three separate robberies in three different cities. The first was a
scrap yard in East Cleveland, the second was a video store in Euclid, and
the last was a failed bank robbery in Cleveland. As the robberies progressed
the violence increased as well and ended with the discharging of a shotgun
during the course of the third robbery.
Tate’s evasion of police landed him a spot as
the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force’s Fugitive of the Week on WKYC
Channel 3 News and in the Plain Dealer newspaper. The Task Force received a
number of anonymous tips regarding the whereabouts of Tate. After many
exhaustive hours, members of the Task Force were able to track Tate to the
location where he was eventually arrested.
Cleveland Police 5th District Commander Wayne
Drummond states, “Through the great relationship between the Cleveland
Division of Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, we were able to take a
dangerous felon off the streets of the city of Cleveland.”
