NICEVILLE, FL -The U.S. Marshals North Florida Violent Fugitive Task
Force announces the arrest of a man wanted in Sullivan County New
Hampshire regarding charges involving sexual battery on a child.
Brian Wesley Morey was being sought on 2 counts of Aggravated
Felonious Sexual Assault by local authorities in the town of Newport
in New Hampshire.
The Marshals Task Force was originally contacted
by the Sheriff’s Office in Sullivan County last Wednesday evening
and went to several locations in Niceville in attempt to apprehend
him. On Sunday afternoon, the Task Force received new information
that Morey was staying with a girlfriend at an apartment on the 300
block of Allen Street. However, Morey may have been tipped off that
they would be coming to get him after a local deputy made an attempt
to arrest him there first.
People interviewed by the Task Force
later stated that “…he was hiding in the apartment and that after
the deputy left he fled on foot.” The Task Force, led by Okaloosa
County Sheriff’s Office Investigator John Merchant spent the rest of
the night and early morning hours looking for him. Merchant and
other members of the Task Force believed that Morey couldn’t have
went far because “…he had no money and only the clothes on his
back,” according to sources interviewed.
The Task Force then decided
to start again the next day. However, Investigator Merchant received
a call that Morey wanted to turn himself in. At approximately 12:30
today the 29 year old, 6’3” 300 pound fugitive was arrested without
incident during a traffic stop by Merchant and Niceville Police
Officers.
Morey was booked into the Okaloosa County
Jail. Morey will be extradited back to New Hampshire to face the
sexual assault charges.
