North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended two suspects
wanted in connection with an armed robbery of a credit union in
Macon, GA, where the suspects cleaned out the bank of all its money.
Merkuri Carl Stanback and Carmilla Davis are wanted by the Macon
Police Department for Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, and Possession of a
Firearm during the commission of a felony. The warrants charge that
Stanback, 27, and Davis, 23, allegedly entered the Park Community
Federal Credit Union on December 28, 2007; and forced the employees
and customers into another room where they were tied up and the bank
was robbed. According to police reports, they took approximately
$200,000.00 in cash, clearing out every dollar in the bank. The
reports alleged that they were armed with handguns and a stun-gun
during the robbery. The suspected robbers also took several purses
from customers in the bank. Witnesses at the bank stated that the
suspects entered through the front door, cleared out all of the
money and then exited through the rear doors. The police in Macon
stated that they dropped approximately $48,000 in the parking lot.
According to investigators from Macon Police Department, a third
suspect, Frederick Clay, a man in his late twenties, was arrested
the night of the robbery and that is when they believe Stanback and
Davis fled the area. Authorities in Macon then searched Stanback’s
apartment and found all of the weapons believed to be used in the
robbery, as well as approximately $122,000 cash, which a large
amount of that was dye-stained bank money.
Two days ago, the U.S. Marshals
Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Macon learned that
Stanback and Davis were hiding out somewhere in Pensacola. For the
last day or so, the Marshals Task Force in Pensacola had been trying
to pin down the two who had been traveling back and forth between
Pensacola and Milton. Late this afternoon, they found them staying
at the Econo Lodge on Highway 29 under an alias. At about 4:30, The
North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force with task force members
from Escambia and Okaloosa Sheriff’s Offices, Florida Department of
Law Enforcement, Ft. Walton Beach and Milton Police Departments had
to force their way into Room 308 when Stanback and Davis would not
open the door. The two fugitives were then arrested without further
incident. A smaller amount of cash was seized but the denominations
were large bills believed to be part of the missing stolen money.
Both Stanback and Davis are being held in Escambia County Jail are
awaiting extradition back to Georgia. |
