The United States Marshals North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force announces the arrest of Tony Carlos Berry, age 25, of Orlando, Florida. Berry was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force on August 31, 2007 at approximately 3:45 PM at the Greyhound Bus Station at 112 West Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, FL. Berry was arrested by U.S. Marshals task force members after receiving critical information as to Berry’s whereabouts from the U.S. Marshals Office in Omaha, Nebraska. Tony Carlos Berry was wanted by the Omaha Police Department on a warrant charging Berry with 1st Degree Homicide with a Firearm. The warrant alleges that Berry committed the above offense in Omaha, Nebraska on August 28, 2007.

The Omaha Police Department initially referred this case to the United States Marshals Service, District of Nebraska on August 29, 2007 beginning an intensive 3 day manhunt for Berry. The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force in Tallahassee received a request for assistance from the U.S. Marshals in Omaha, Nebraska around 3:00 PM on August 31, 2007 and within the hour task force members identified Berry’s location at the Greyhound Bus Station in Tallahassee. Due to Berry's extensive violent criminal history, task force members arrested Berry inside the Greyhound Bus Station before Berry had an opportunity to board the 4:00PM bus with other travelers to Orlando, FL. A search incident to the arrest of Berry uncovered over $17,000.00 dollars in cash inside Berry's travel bag. Berry was booked into the Leon County Jail by task force members late Friday afternoon where he is currently awaiting extradition back to Omaha, NE.

United States Marshal Dennis A. Williamson emphasized this case as a shining example of task force cooperation in that it brought together the diverse talents and resources of local, state, and federal law enforcement in a common goal to accomplish the arrest of a significant fugitive who represented a substantial danger to the community.

The United States Marshals Service, Tallahassee, FL spearheads the North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force which is comprised of full time officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Leon County Sheriff's Office, the Tallahassee Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service. The Task Force's primary mission is the identification and apprehension of fugitives in the North Florida area who are being sought for crimes of violence or who have a history of violent offenses.

Berry becomes the fifth suspect wanted for warrants relating to homicide or attempted homicide charges arrested by the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force in the panhandle area of Florida during August. Lucious B. Guyton Jr., age 21, wanted by the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office for 1st Degree Attempted Homicide, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals task force members on August 10th at 20 Sweet Street, Havana. Lamonte Herring, age 22, was wanted by the Tallahassee Police Department for 1st Degree Attempted Homicide stemming from a shooting at the Silverado Park Apartments in Tallahassee in August resulting in another man being shot several times with a firearm. Carlos Zavala, age 19, was wanted by the Lee Sheriff’s Office in Florida for two warrants issued on June 26th charging him with 1st Degree Homicide and Armed Robbery with a Firearm stemming from a homicide and robbery in which the victim was killed. U.S. Marshals task force members located Ross and after making telephonic contact with him on August 23, task force personnel convinced him it was in his best interest to self-surrender on the outstanding warrant. A few hours later, Ross did in fact turn himself into task force personnel.
