WESTWEGO, LA POLICE DEPARTMENT AND EASTERN DISTRICT OF LOUISIANA U.S. MARSHALS CRESCENT STAR FUGITIVE TASK FORCE HAUL IN FUGITIVE COUPLE CRIME SPREE SUSPECTS AS USAG’s OPERATION DEBRIS REMOVAL CONTINUES IN EDLA

On the night of February 07, 2007, the Eastern District of Louisiana ( EDLA) U.S. Marshals Crescent Star Fugitive Task Force (CSFTF), with the help of the Westwego, Louisiana Police Department, arrested Cody Lee GOOD, 29 years old, and his girlfriend, Tosha Leah THOMAS, 26 years old, at a grocery store parking lot in the 1000 block of West Bank Expressway Westwego, Louisiana. GOOD was wanted out of Arapahoe County, Colorado for escape and is a suspect in at least four armed robberies in the Alexandria, Louisiana area. THOMAS was wanted out of Arapahoe County, Colorado for a felony theft. Both are also suspects in a traffic stop last week in the Alexandria, Louisiana area, with the Louisiana State Police, that resulted in a high speed chase during which they eluded arrest and rammed an LSP unit.

GOOD’s escape warrant was issued on January 01, 2007, by Colorado DOC for cutting off his electronic monitor while under home confinement and fleeing the area. GOOD was serving the end of a four year sentence for felony burglary by being placed on home confinement. In mid January of 2007, several business armed robberies occurred in the Alexandria, Louisiana area. The U.S. Marshals District of Colorado was already assisting Colorado DOC with the escape case when GOOD flew onto radar in the Alexandria, Louisiana area as the suspect in the armed robberies.

The Alexandria Police Department requested the assistance of Western District of Louisiana U.S. Marshals office in locating GOOD. With all of these law enforcement agencies working together, information was developed that they were traveling in an older model black Acura with Colorado license plate and headed to the New Orleans metro area. CSFTF was contacted to assist in the investigation. The vehicle was located in a grocery store parking lot in Westwego and, after a brief surveillance, both were arrested without incident as they attempted to get into the Acura. Both were booked by the Westwego Police Department into the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office jail where they await extradition.

The EDLA U.S. Marshals sponsored CSFTF was founded in 1999 and has arrested about four thousand fugitives since its’ beginning with many being wanted for violent crimes or narcotics related charges. New Orleans Police Department, Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bogalusa Police Department, Louisiana Probation and Parole, and the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Services are current participants in CSFTF. Other law enforcement agencies, such as Westwego Police, also provide assistance when information is developed that fugitives are hiding in their jurisdictions. The U.S. Marshals Service is also responsible for federal courthouse security, federal prisoner court productions, transport of federal inmates to the Bureau of Prisons, witness security, service of federal process, and managing seized federal assets. The U.S. Attorney General’s commitment of additional U.S. Marshals resources to the New Orleans metro area for Operation Debris Removal has allowed the CSFTF to put more manpower on the streets while staying committed to its federal judiciary mission. This manpower increase has allowed CSFTF to run multiple warrant teams and hunt fugitives in the morning and at night resulting in an average of ten to fifteen arrests per week For more information on the U.S. Marshals go to www.usmarshals.gov.
