Women in the Senate is one of more than 50 VRD categories. Rebecca Latimer Felton was the first woman to serve in the Senate; she was appointed in 1922 at the age of 87, and served for just one day. To date, 38 women have served in the U.S. Senate, with seventeen serving at this time.
