Federal IT Asset Management Program

Mission

The Federal Information Technology Asset Management Program Management Office (FedITAM PMO) falls under the auspices of the Interagency Policy & Management Division, in the Office of Technology Strategy, of the Office of Governmentwide Policy (OGP) at the General Services Administration (GSA).

The FedITAM program provides leadership, policy guidance, tools, and best practices for the integrated life-cycle management of IT assets across the government.

It communicates a common framework toward better management, strategic sourcing, and accurate tracking of hardware and software assets-- so that information, assets, people, and processes are adequately detected, protected and connected across the federal government.

Goals

The program works toward three cost-conscious goals in addressing IT software and hardware assets federal-wide:

  • Managing smarter
  • Buying smarter
  • Fostering accountability for contract, policy, and standards compliance

Objectives

The program promotes government-wide process improvements using the ISO 19770 ITAM Standards.  It strives to institutionalize ITAM standards, policy guidelines, best practices, and automated tools to support existing Federal laws, Executive Orders, and OMB Memorandum M-09-02 issued on October 21, 2008.

FedITAM methodically guides agencies government-wide toward a higher degree of compliancy and operational efficiencies across IT assets.
