Vandals Strike at Pine Bar

Popular Salmon River Recreation Site Damaged Again

COTTONWOOD, ID – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Pine Bar Recreation Site, a popular Salmon River boat launch site and campground located 11 miles south of Cottonwood, ID, was damaged sometime last week. Vandals broke down and burned an information kiosk and a plastic garbage can leaving a pile of burned debris and litter.

According to BLM Field Manager Stephanie Connolly, this is the second time vandals have hit this site since it was upgraded in October, 2008. “It’s really disappointing when these senseless acts of vandalism occur at a public recreation site. We take a lot of pride in providing and maintaining these sites for the public to use and enjoy; our budgets are declining and now we have to spend our limited resources to replace and repair these items.” Connolly estimates it will cost about $1,200 to repair the damages.

Anyone with information concerning the vandalism at this site or any other BLM site should contact BLM Ranger Michael Sabatini at (208) 769-5005, the BLM Cottonwood Field Office at (208) 962-3245 or the Idaho County Sheriff’s office at (208) 983-1100.
