International Comparisons of Manufacturing Productivity and Unit Labor Cost Trends

Manufacturing labor productivity rose in 14 of the 17 economies compared in 2007. The U.S. increase of 4.7 percent was the fourth largest. Unit labor costs in U.S. dollars rose in 14 of the economies and fell in 3, including the United States (-1.1 percent), improving U.S. cost competitiveness. Full Text »

In 2008, annual average jobless rates rose in all 4 regions and in 46 states and the District of Columbia, declined in 1 state, and were unchanged in 3 states.
