STATEMENT BY TOMMY G. THOMPSON
Secretary of Health and Human Services
On Senate Passage of S. 1 "The Prescription Drug and Modernization Act of 2003"

I commend the Senate for its bipartisan effort in passing legislation to strengthen Medicare with a prescription drug benefit. The Senate bill incorporates many key elements that the President laid out in his framework to modernize Medicare with better benefits and more choices. We will continue working with the Senate and House as they move toward a final bill that will strengthen Medicare for the benefit of America's seniors.
