Statement by Mike Leavitt, Secretary of Health and Human Services, On the Confirmation of Ben Sasse as Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation and Christina Pearson as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs

I applaud the Senate’s confirmation of Ben Sasse as Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation and Christina Pearson as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs.

Ben brings to this new role strong leadership skills and a sound understanding of a broad scope of important policy matters.  His wide-range of experience in the executive and legislative branches as well as the private and academic sectors will greatly benefit the Department and the people that we serve.

Christina also brings strong leadership skills and proven expertise in communicating effectively and strategically.  Her breadth of experience and integrity will serve the public, the Department and the media well.

Both Ben and Christina will be tremendous assets to HHS as we strive to continue meeting the health needs of the nation in the New Year.
