FED employees make Kimchi with local Koreans
SEOUL- US Army Corps of Engineers, Far East District employees made winter kimchi for with local volunteers of Jung-gu Saemaeul Ladies Committee in Seoul's Jung-gu District, Nov. 18, as a part of the US Forces Korea Good Neighbor Program.

On a day with the sudden chill of winter, 15 FED volunteers, most of whom made the traditional Korean dish for the first time, stuffed a total of 2,000 cabbages with the help of local volunteers.
"It is fun and I love kimchi. I like the spicy taste of it. I really wanted to learn how to make it and it is a great chance to do," Annetta Bryant, FED Information Management Office. Annetta came to Korea this October and is eager to reach out to local community and learn about Korea. "I want to participate in this kind of Good Neighbor programs in the future again."

Far East District's Book Drive for local school broadens Good Neighbor Program
Seoul - The US Army Corps of Engineers, Far East District conducted book drives and delivered English books to the Seoul Hyoje Elementary School located nearby the FED compound, September 30.

This event is part of the FED Good Neighbor Program to reach out to the Korean community through cultural and educational exchanges promoting mutual understanding of one another.
"It will be very helpful for me and my students to have many English books. I will be able to use them as teaching materials for my class," said Kim Hae-wook, one of school's English teachers.
This book drive was the second outreach program between FED and the school since FED established its good neighbor relationship with the local community in June when FED invited 44 students to its organization day event.

and effectively when disasters strike. The Corps maintains
43 Planning and Response Teams, stationed around the country
to facilitate a rapid response to any disaster, no matter where
it occurs. These teams continually conduct disaster response
training simulations. Corps personnel also participate in regional
training exercises with other agencies.
