District Honored With Prestigious Awards
Jacksonville District received two prestigious awards in September honoring outstanding achievements.
The Jacksonville District and the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources were awarded the 2008 annual American Cultural Resources Association (ACRA) Industry Award for efforts to protect cultural resources. Archeologist David McCullough was instrumental in helping SAJ to receive the award. The project helped to preserve a site of international interest as a result of the construction of the Portugues Dam. Congratulations to David and Planning Division for their outstanding success!
A project engineered by the Jacksonville District has won the Australian-based International Riverfoundation’s International Thiess Riverprize for 2008. The river advocacy organization honored co-sponsors, the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) and the Corps’ Jacksonville District for the Upper St. Johns River Basin Project earlier this fall. Jacksonville District Deputy District Engineer for Project Management, David Hobbie, accepted the award for the Corps.
