Why did my fonts become blurry, after I updated to Java version 6u10, and how to fix this?

    Vista, Windows 2000 (SP4+), Windows XP (SP1 SP2)

    Internet Explorer 6.x, Internet Explorer 7.x, Mozilla 1.4+, Firefox
  • JRE version(s):
    6.0, 6u10+



SYMPTOMS

After updating to Java version 6u10 the fonts become blurry.


CAUSE

The drivers for your video card are not compatible with Java version 6u10.


SOLUTION

Step 1:
Please refer to the manufacturer of your video card, update to the latest version of the drivers for your specific video card.
For example, to update drivers please visit Update drivers

Step 2:
Disable hardware acceleration feature in Java version 6u10.

Follow these steps, to disable hardware acceleration feature :
  1. Open Java Control Panel.
  2. Double click the Java icon.
  3. Click the Java tab.
  4. Click the View button inside Java Applet Runtime Settings.
  5. Add -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false in the Java Runtime Parameter field for version 1.6.0_10.
