Celebrating 20 Years!

Visit the new 20th Anniversary Website!

When the Wildlife Habitat Council was formed in 1988, the founders conceived a new and innovative concept of bringing together - conservation and business. This was the first cooperative effort between the environmental community and industry.

A visionary team of companies -- Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., DuPont Company, ExxonMobil, General Electric Company, Tenneco Oil Company and United States Steel Corporation and environmental groups -- the American Farmland Trust, Izaak Walton League of America, National Wildlife Federation and World Wildlife Fund -- came together to search for innovative joint ventures in environmental stewardship. Today, with our members and partners, we continue to share a vision to conserve and restore natural ecosystems for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity.

The Wildlife Habitat Council’s first 20 years have been marked with groundbreaking successes, including engaging over 1,500 corporate programs around the globe in on-the-ground conservation efforts on private lands.

We have challenged and celebrated corporate leadership in environmental stewardship. We have also sought to engage industry with other conservation and local organizations in order to build capacity and leverage limited, valuable resources for the benefit of biodiversity.

In the coming year, WHC will unveil exciting new programs and initiatives to celebrate our 20th Anniversary, culminating with the 20th Annual Symposium in 2008. Now is the time to get on board and celebrate your successes in conservation with us.

Signatures of Sustainability

WHC's successes to date only inspire us and our members to strive for even more in the next 20 years. Signatures of Sustainability capture this spirit to celebrate how far we have come, but more importantly, to chart the future.

A Signature of Sustainability is a habitat program that demonstrates the potential of private sector involvement for biodiversity conservation. Signatures for Sustainability will help WHC encourage even greater engagement by companies in voluntary actions for the conservation of biodiversity.

Each month of 2008 will feature Signatures of Sustainability as part of a national media tour. The tour will provide excellent visibility from local, regional and national media outlets. We encourage all Signatures of Sustainability to host an environmental fair, educational workshop or other event for the local community to further build awareness of these programs.

These programs make the communities around them a better place for both biodiversity and learners of all ages, and represent the very highest standards for a WHC program.
