Error: x64.exe not a valid Win32 application

SYMPTOMS

While trying to install Java user gets following error message.



CAUSE

Above error message is a result of user trying to install 64-bit version of Java on their 32-bit operating system.


SOLUTION

User needs to install 32-bit version of Java software, as 64-bit version is not compatible with their 32-bit operating system.

Follow these steps to download 32-bit Java
  1. Go to Manual download
  2. Click Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Online.
  3. The File Download dialog box appears.
  4. Choose the folder location.
  5. (Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop).
  6. Click Save.
  7. Verify that the:
    • Name of the file is correct
    • Size is approximately 14.0 MB
  8. Close all applications including the browser.
  9. Double-click on the saved file icon to start the installation process.
