Just In Time Parenting

The CSREES Innovation Grant allows land-grant partners to enhance Just in Time Parenting (JITP) materials. This grant project, Early Interventions to Combat Childhood Obesity developed new messages for parents of infants and children that promote healthy diets, eating habits, and physical activity. The Innovation PowerPoint presentation identifies how Early Interventions to Combat Childhood Obesity enhances JITP materials and how CSREES leadership has helped in JITP development.

JITP, a research and evidence-based program, has the potential to reach every family in America. The program capitalizes on the teachable moment, pulling together core knowledge for children to thrive. Its vision is to begin the program before birth and continue through adolescence, make the program available nationwide in every county, and update materials through multistate and multidisciplinary teams. The JITP PowerPoint presentation provides program details, other state programs, and key team members.

Experts from CSREES and some of the nation's leading universities teamed up to develop Just In Time Parenting Information newsletters that aim to provide just the right information at the right time. Each newsletter series provides information geared to the specific age of a child, including:

  • Great Beginnings
  • Baby Bouncer
  • 1-2-3 Grow!
  • Zero to One
  • Parent Express
  • The Growing Years
  • Baby's First Wish
  • Healthy Children Ready to Learn
  • Parenting the First Year & Parenting the Second and Third Years
  • Cradle Crier
  • Toddler Tales

The newsletters are available online.
