The National Environmental Services Center (NESC) and the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) are delighted to announce that the annual State Onsite Regulators Alliance/Captains of Industry (SORA/COI©) conference will be held during NEHA’s 73rd Annual Educational Conference and Exhibition, June 22ndst – 24th in Atlanta, Georgia.

This year will mark the 11th annual gathering of state, tribal, and U.S. territorial officials charged with regulating onsite and decentralized wastewater treatment. The conference provides an opportunity to enhance interdisciplinary dialogue and advance scientific knowledge and research about wastewater issues affecting public health, as well as to promote the decentralized wastewater industry’s role in a viable and sustainable wastewater infrastructure.

The SORA/COI© Conference serves as a mechanism to enhance interdisciplinary dialogue and advance knowledge of those responsible for applying quality research into engineering issues affecting public health and promoting the decentralized wastewater industry as a viable option for water infrastructure.

Why should you attend?

Because you will have the opportunity to:
  1. Meet with regulatory officials and from all across the country.
  2. Use your time to engage in meaningful networking opportunities with state, regional, and federal decision-makers.
  3. Keep up-to-date on the latest decentralized technologies; examine various solutions that decentralized systems offer; discuss the integration of water and wastewater programs; and learn about the latest developments in research, performance, and management.

2008 SORA COI Captains of Industry Captains
The National Environmental Services Center (NESC) at West Virginia University is once again hosting the 2009 State Onsite Regulators Alliance and Captains of Industry (SORA/COI©) Conference. Since 1998, through the generosity of West Virginia University, the Captains of Industry and our association and federal government partners, NESC has been able to cover all annual conference costs including stipends for regulatory officials who might normally be unable to attend due to budgetary restrictions.

The cost of holding a national conference is considerable. However, the unique opportunity provided by the conference for State, Territorial, and Tribal Regulators to meet, exchange experiences and discuss technology with each other, manufacturers and service providers is not easily measured in dollars and cents. NESC is aware that the many benefits of the information and experience gained by conference participants are implemented where they are most needed … at the state, tribal and local levels.

Your support this year will play a vital role in the continuation of the SORA/COI© Conference. To help cover expenses, a $750 registration fee will be used primarily to provide travel stipends for the regulatory representatives. As a sponsor or Captain of Industry your registration will provide exclusive time with the regulators outside of NEHA conference activities and enable your participation in the full SORA/COI© Conference agenda. For those able to extend sponsorships beyond the $750 registration, your contribution will support additional conference activities with appropriate recognition to your organization as a sponsor.

At this pivotal time in our nation’s history, the 2009 SORA/COI© Conference is a timely opportunity to bring together State, Territorial, and Tribal Regulatory Managers and Industry Captions to interact face-to-face about issues that will shape the future. We at NESC, along with our partners appreciate any support you can provide during these challenging economic times. For more information please see our Registration Page.
