Pawnee National Grassland

The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland (ARP) is located in north central Colorado (see map). The forests and grassland encompasses 1.5 million acres and extends north to the Wyoming border, south of Interstate 70 to Mount Evans, west across the Continental Divide to the Williams Fork area and includes short grass prairie east of I-25. The forests and grassland is head-quartered in Fort Collins, with district offices in Boulder, Fort Collins, Idaho Springs, Granby and Greeley.

Special Notice

Ice conditions on the lakes in the Arapaho National Recreation Area vary and may not be suitable for snowmobiling, ice fishing or other winter activities.

Mountain Pine Beetle: Check for the latest information on the Mountain Pine Beetle Infestation for the Boulder, Canyon Lakes and Sulphur Ranger Districts. When recreating in the Forest please use caution around hazardous trees.

Current information about where you can recreate in the Fraser Valley during logging.

Target Shooting: Planning Activities and Current Regulations and information on the Lefthand Canyon 30 acre"Slot Canyon" recreational shooting closure.

Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) display National Forest System (NFS) routes (roads and trails) or areas designated as open to motorized travel. These maps are in various stages of development. The Sulphur Ranger District and Pawnee National Grassland maps are available on the web.

Boating on Lake Granby: Boats are an important vector for the spread of quagga mussels. Voluntary inspections of boats before and after using Lake Granby are vital to preventing the spread of this aggressive invader. Voluntary boat cleaning and inspection should be a part of every boaters planning and preparation. For more information contact the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Bureau of Reclamation who are leading this effort.
