ERS and Farm Foundation Announce a Workshop on Land Use

October 16-17, 2007 (Tuesday and Wednesday)

Amber Waves Room
Economic Research Service, USDA
1800 M Street NW
Washington, DC (Directions)

Workshop Rationale: Measurements of cropland and other land uses over time are essential for evaluating the economic and environmental performance of U.S. agriculture. We are now at a turning point in terms of the availability of nationwide data on agricultural and rural land uses from various new and ongoing initiatives within different Federal agencies. These initiatives will transform our ability to track and analyze nationwide land use over time and, in particular, over space. The workshop has three objectives: (1) increase awareness about new developments in the collection of land-use data related to agriculture and rural land, 2) discuss opportunities and challenges for land-use modeling drawing on these data, and 3) identify priorities for future data collection and modeling efforts.

Farm Foundation has posted the conference presentations on their website.
