WFP has launched Operation Lifeline Gaza, a global appeal to ramp up the distribution of food to people caught in the conflict in the occupied Palestinian territory. WFP has so far distributed 2-month and 3-month rations to more than 137,000 people. Operational Update
WFP is urging countries to step up and allocate to urgent hunger needs a fraction of what is proposed for financial rescue packages to address the global economic downturn.
Until recently, Dungu was one of the war-ravaged corners of the country that simply had to fend for itself. Relief arrived with the start of a WFP food distribution scheme.
"Now that I have a secure buyer, I will grow a lot more beans,” says one farmer who is benefitting from WFP's innovative Purchase for Progress (P4P) programme.
