Outreach is part of NRCS' daily business. We work to ensure that programs and
services are made accessible to all customers, while placing special emphasis on

NRCS Chief Arlen Lancaster and
Chief of Staff Daniel Whiting joined National Association of Conservation
Districts president John Redding and president-elect Steve Robinson on a
three-state conservation tour through Massachusetts, Rhode Island and
Connecticut. Local NRCS staff, state officials, conservation district
representatives and agricultural leaders met with the visitors as they viewed
conservation projects and practices on cranberry bogs, dairy farms, fish
passages and shellfish operations.
A little slice of Worcester County is now on display at the Smithsonian
Institution in Washington, DC. A “monolith” of Paxton Fine Sandy Loam – the
official Massachusetts state soil – is on loan to the museum from the U.S.
Department of Agriculture along with 53 other designated state and territory
soil samples in a new soils exhibition that opened on July 19 at the National
Museum of Natural History.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service provides leadership
