Chief Arlen Lancaster joined Minnesota NRCS employees and Earth Team volunteers who staffed a booth last week at the 25th Anniversary Convention and National Pheasant Fest 2008 at the RiverCentre in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  This outreach effort provided NRCS with an opportunity to share technical information with landowners.

Chief Lancaster also talked with NRCS and others staffing a Landowner Habitat Help Room to provide farmers and landowners site-specific information about conservation programs.  On hand in the Help Room were staff professionals from the Farm Bill Partnership, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Iowa DNR, Farm Service Agency, and the Minnesota Board and Soil Water Resources.

On Saturday, a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed at the Pheasant Fest by Minnesota NRCS State Conservationist Bill Hunt, representatives from Pheasants Forever, Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Board of Soil and Water Resources, and Farm Service Agency.  The MOU provides for increased cooperation and understanding between partners engaged in compatible activities to enhance the productivity, profitability, and environmental responsibility of the agricultural sector in Minnesota.  Areas of partner cooperation include promotion, marketing, natural resource conservation and management, land use planning, risk management, and community development.

Chief Lancaster was the keynote speaker at the 25th Anniversary Celebration Banquet held on the evening of the MOU signing.
