Export Sales Highlights

 

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period September 5-11, 2008. 

Wheat:  Net sales of 657,300 metric tons were up 44 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Nigeria (117,200 MT), Japan (115,600 MT), the Philippines (99,500 MT), Iran (68,900 MT), Mexico (65,100 MT), South Korea (46,500 MT), and Venezuela (39,800 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Guatemala (43,600 MT), Ghana (4,700 MT), Belize (1,100 MT), and Panama (1,100 MT).  Exports of 536,400 MT were down 22 percent from the previous week and 34 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Iran (114,900 MT), Japan (84,600 MT), Egypt (63,900 MT), Mexico (52,100 MT), Colombia (44,900 MT), Malaysia (34,800 MT), and South Korea (25,600 MT). 

Corn:  Net sales of 325,400 MT resulted as increases for Japan (190,100 MT), Mexico (187,300 MT), Colombia (54,800 MT), Canada (25,900 MT), Lebanon (18,000 MT), and Taiwan (14,800 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (153,600 MT) and South Korea (58,500 MT).  Exports of 862,700 MT were up 72 percent from the previous week, but unchanged from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (440,300 MT), Mexico (119,800 MT), Egypt (100,300 MT), South Korea (53,300 MT), Taiwan (41,100 MT), and Canada (34,200 MT). 

Barley:  Net sales of 3,900 MT were reported for Mexico (3,800 MT) and Taiwan (100 MT).  Exports of 4,700 MT were reported for Mexico (4,100 MT), Taiwan (500 MT), and Canada (100 MT). 

Sorghum:  Net sales reductions of 15,600 MT resulted as increases for Colombia (1,200 MT), were more than offset by decreases for Mexico (16,800 MT).  Exports of 33,600 MT were 67 percent below the previous week and 53 percent under the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were Mexico (15,900 MT), Colombia (13,200 MT), and Japan (4,500 MT). 

Rice:  Net sales of 32,600 MT were down 44 percent from the previous week and 36 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The major buyers were Japan (13,000 MT), Haiti (6,000 MT), Canada (4,600 MT), Saudi Arabia (3,700 MT), Israel (2,100 MT), and Jordan (2,000 MT).  Exports of 25,800 MT were nearly two and one-tenth times the previous week, but 30 percent under the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Venezuela (7,000 MT), Canada (3,800 MT), Jordan (3,300 MT), Saudi Arabia (2,900 MT), Mexico (1,800 MT), Israel (1,300 MT), Australia (1,300 MT), and the Dominican Republic (1,100 MT). 

Soybeans:  Net sales of 411,500 MT resulted as increases for China (114,900 MT), Japan (81,400 MT), Indonesia (64,500 MT, including 58,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Taiwan (43,600 MT), and unknown destinations (42,000 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Canada (14,300 MT).  Exports of 221,700 MT were three and one-tenth times the previous week and 10 percent above the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (107,500 MT), China (61,200 MT), Mexico (23,800 MT), and Taiwan (16,200 MT). 

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 31,300 MT were up 2 percent from the previous week, but down 40 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Mexico (15,600 MT), Japan (11,400 MT) Honduras (5,900 MT), and Guatemala (5,400 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (14,800 MT).  Net sales of 99,600 MT for delivery in 2008/09 were mainly for Mexico (93,900 MT).  Exports of 59,700 MT--a marketing-year low-- were down 16 percent from the previous week and 41 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (20,500 MT), Canada (17,400 MT), Guatemala (7,600 MT), and Honduras (5,900 MT). 

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 10,500 MT were primarily for Morocco (5,000 MT), Algeria (2,000 MT), and Trinidad (1,000 MT).  Exports of 12,200 MT were primarily to Morocco (5,000 MT), Algeria (2,000 MT), and Mexico (1,400 MT). 

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 461,600 running bales were up three and three-tenths times from the previous week, and three times from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (179,800 RB, including 2,200 RB switched from Vietnam), Vietnam (59,500 RB), Indonesia (48,300 RB), Turkey (44,700 RB), and Thailand (37,800 RB).  Net sales of 12,700 RB for delivery in 2009/10 were mainly for Mexico (11,300 RB).  Exports of 288,600 RB were up 24 percent from the previous week and 16 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (140,600 RB), Mexico (33,700 RB), Turkey (31,700 RB), and Indonesia (15,200 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 700 RB were mainly for Peru (400 RB) and Thailand (300 RB).  Exports of 1,000 RB were primarily to Indonesia (300 RB), Thailand (300 RB), and Japan (300 RB). 

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 495,700 pieces were up 70 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 482,100 pieces were mainly for China (190,800 pieces), South Korea (170,500 pieces), Taiwan (54,000 pieces), Thailand (23,300 pieces), and Mexico (20,900 pieces).  Exports of 499,000 pieces were up 5 percent from the previous week, but down 2 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 492,200 pieces were primarily to China (270,900 pieces), South Korea (83,800 pieces), Hong Kong (28,900 pieces), Japan (25,400 pieces), and Taiwan (24,200 pieces). 

Net sales of 69,700 wet blues were down 46 percent from the previous week and 41 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were mainly for Mexico (18,700 grain splits and 14,100 unsplit), Taiwan (18,700 unsplit), South Korea (17,000 unsplit), Vietnam (7,800 unsplit), and China (5,300 unsplit).  Exports of 122,000 hides were up 6 percent from the previous week and 7 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (24,800 unsplit), Mexico (13,700 grain splits and 6,100 unsplit), Italy (15,100 unsplit and 3,600 grain splits), and Hong Kong (17,000 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 393,500 pounds resulted as increases for China (414,700 pounds) were partially offset by decreases for Indonesia (15,900 pounds) and Hong Kong (5,400 pounds).  Exports of 863,500 pounds were three times the previous week and 47 percent higher than the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were China (534,700 pounds), Hong Kong (144,600 pounds), Taiwan (100,000 pounds), and Indonesia (84,100 pounds). 

Beef:  Net sales of 9,900 MT were primarily for South Korea (3,100 MT), Canada (1,700 MT), Vietnam (1,600 MT), Japan (1,300 MT), and Mexico (700 MT).  Exports of 13,600 MT were mainly to Mexico (5,100 MT), South Korea (4,400 MT), Canada (1,400 MT), Japan (1,000 MT), Vietnam (700 MT), and Russia (400 MT).
