Personal Identification Number (PIN)

As part of our efforts to keep your library account safe and secure, all public libraries in Allegheny County will implement the use of Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) for all library accounts.

Benefits

  • Provides an added layer of security to your library account.
  • Improves the privacy of your account and the material that you access.
  • Allows access to new features. Added tools coming this year include the ability to develop a “Reading History” of your checkouts and a “Wish List” of what you want to read.

When PINs ARE Required

  • PINs will be necessary if you do any of the following online: place your own requests, access eVideos, pay fines or monitor your account.
  • PINS will soon be required for using self-checkout machines.
  • PINs will soon be required to log on to library computers.

When PINs are NOT Required

  • PINs will not be necessary for borrowing materials in person at any checkout desk.

What You Will Need

  • A VALID e-mail address linked to your library account is crucial to this service. If you forget your PIN, the best way to re-set it is through email notification. We encourage you to include an e-mail address in your record to take full advantage of catalog benefits.
