2006 West Regional Cooperative Soil Survey Conference
in conjunction with
Western Society of Soil Science Conference

Park City, Utah

June 19-23, 2006

The 2006 West Regional Cooperative Soil Survey (WRCSS) and Western Society of Soil Science (WSSS) conferences were held jointly in Park City, Utah, from June 19-23, 2006. The conferences provided many opportunities to share information and build partnerships between these two organizations with interests in soil resources.

The WRCSS theme was “Innovative Applications of Soil Survey: Meeting the Changing Needs of Today’s Society”.

The WSSS theme was “The Relevancy of Soil Science to the Needs of a Changing West”.

A joint, mid-week field trip to the Heber Valley and Uinta National Forest areas highlighted the use of soils information to guide land management. The tour was divided into three general areas of land use management: growth pressures and challenges to community land use planners in Park City, cooperative watershed programs in the Heber Valley area, and Forest Service watershed assessment and restoration of the Strawberry Valley.

A joint poster session was also held with good representation from both societies.

All meetings took place at the Prospector Lodge and Conference Center located in beautiful Park City, Utah, from June 19-22, 2006.
