The 2007 NRCS candidate for the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)
28th Annual Federal Engineer of the Year Award is Colorado State Conservation
Engineer John E. Andrews. John has overall responsibility for 200 Colorado
NRCS field employees’ job approval authority regarding the design and
construction of engineering practices. This includes, on an annual basis,
25,000 acres of irrigation improvements; 1,200 structures for irrigation,
erosion control, and livestock water; 600,000 feet of terraces and diversions
for erosion control; 1,400,000 feet of irrigation pipeline; 55,000 feet of
irrigation ditch lining; 200 pumping plants; 70 water wells; and 300 watering
facilities. John serves on an NRCS study team who assess the engineering
design needs at the State, regional, and national levels and coordinate actions
for obtaining agency engineering tools including software development.
The Federal Engineer of the Year is selected by a panel of judges established by
the NSPE Professional Engineers in Government who consider engineering
achievements, education, continuing education, professional/technical society
activities, NSPE membership, awards and honors, and civic and humanitarian
activities. Candidates are nominated by their respective federal agencies
that must employ at least 50 engineers worldwide. The NSPE is the
recognized voice and advocate of licensed Professional Engineers.
