Interior Law Enforcement Officers Graduate from FBI National Academy

Three Interior law enforcement officers have graduated from the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Va. Special Agent Darren Cruzan and Park Ranger Jill Hawk graduated from Session 224 on March 17, and Lt. Robert MacLean graduated from Session 225 on April 2.

Established in 1935, the Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders. Its mission is to promote and enhance the personal and professional development of its attendees. A total of 250 officers from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and more than 20 foreign countries attended each Academy session.

Special Agent Darren Cruzan (Bureau of Indian Affairs) is the eighth BIA employee to complete the National Academy. Agent Cruzan, an enrolled member of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, began his law enforcement career in 1992 as a member of the police department in Joplin City, Mo.

His first assignment with BIA was as a police officer at the Muscogee Agency in Oklahoma. He has also worked as an instructor at the Indian Police Academy in Artesia, N.M.; special agent in the Portland, Ore., Regional Office; and as the chief of police at the Crow Agency in Montana.

Agent Cruzan is the BIA liaison to the Office of Law Enforcement, Security, and Emergency Management. He is currently the acting chief, Border and Drug Coordination Branch.

Park Ranger Jill Hawk (National Park Service) graduated from the National Academy with a 4.0 grade point average. Ranger Hawk is a 17-year employee of the NPS. She began her Park Service career as an interpreter at Fire Island National Seashore and at Shenandoah National Park. She has also worked as a law enforcement park ranger at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island National Monument, Everglades National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway and Mount Ranier National Park.

Hawk has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree from Antioch University. She is the regional chief ranger of the NPS Northeast Regional Office.

Lt. Robert D. MacLean (U.S. Park Police) graduated from the National Academy with a 4.0 grade point average, receiving a master’s certificate from the University of Virginia. Lt. MacLean is a 15-year employee of the USPP.

He worked as a police officer in the Central District, Rock Creek Park, and on a Crime and Violence Task Force in the District of Columbia. He also worked as a supervisor in a variety of assignments. These include positions as a patrol sergeant, task force sergeant, public information officer, shift commander and as the commander of the internal affairs unit.

Lt. MacLean has a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He is the commander of the USPP Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Canine Unit.
