• The Vimeo

From the beginning, Vimeo was created by filmmakers and video creators who wanted to share their creative work, along with intimate personal moments of their everyday life. As time went on, like-minded people came to the site and built a community of positive, encouraging individuals with a wide range of video interests. We hope that you feel inspired to show us both your creative side as well as your friendly side.

  • Uploading

Vimeo exists to provide you with a space to showcase your creativity and share your life. As such, we do not allow you to upload videos that are commercial in nature or videos that you did not make yourself. See the Uploading Guidelines below for more details.

  • Speech

The Internet is a wonderful place, but we have all noticed that it can also provide people with the means to insult and harass others without taking the full responsibility for their words. A community that allows that type of behavior will quickly decay, so we insist that while you are on Vimeo you respect the people you encounter and their videos. You are free to disagree, but you are not free to attack people simply for your amusement. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't say it on Vimeo. If you cannot conduct yourself in a respectful manner, you will be removed.

  • Community

Vimeo is not a sea of eyeballs that you must trick into increasing your view count. It is a vibrant community of intelligent and creative people. We strongly encourage you to find people who share your interests and connect with them here. The more you interact with the community, the more interest in your work there will be. Get involved and you will enjoy the rewarding experience that Vimeo can provide.

Uploading guidelines

  • General

    • Vimeo is for personal use only.
    • You may only have one account per person. Multiple accounts for the same user will be removed.
    • Follow the 4 fold path of Vimeo
  • Content

    • You may only upload videos that you create yourself. "I have permission to upload this video", regardless if it is in the public domain, does not mean you created it.
    • Users uploading popular or professional content should add their role and involvement in the video description and on their profile to avoid accidental deletion.
    • No sexually illicit material or porn. Non-sexual nudity is okay.
    • No videos that incite hatred, include hate speech, or depict extreme violence.
    • No TV, movies, trailers or other videos you find on the web. You may post videos of yourself on TV, as long as you have the rights to do so and the video is limited to your involvement in the program.
    • No captures of video games or gameplay, regardless if it is edited or not. Machinima with a story is allowed, provided the story is more than "guys doing exactly what the game was made for (eg skateboarding)". Machinima videos must be properly labeled as such in the video description to avoid accidental deletion.
    • Video game developers may post videos of their work provided they cite their involvement in the description of the video (maps and mods to commercial games don't count).
  • Commercial

    • No commercial videos, which means videos selling a product or service. This includes real estate, MLM, Get Rich Quick, Cash Gifting, Home Business, and other dubious moneymaking ventures.
    • Videos may not contain any ads before or after the video unless given explicit permission from Vimeo. Videos with any advertisements in them, including links to commercial sites, regardless of content, will be removed.
    • Businesses may not use Vimeo to promote their business in any way. Businesses may not use Vimeo to host their videos if they have advertising on their site.
    • Video makers may upload demo reels of their work. Musicians may promote their own music/music videos. Independent Production companies may promote the videos they create. Writers may promote their books.
    • Non-profits, educational institutions, and churches may use Vimeo to host videos they create.
