About TreesearchTreesearch is an online system for locating and delivering publications by Research and Development scientists in the US Forest Service. Publications in the collection include research monographs published by the agency as well as papers written by our scientists but published by other organizations in their journals, conference proceedings, or books. Research results behind these publications have been peer reviewed to ensure the best quality science. Scope
We have resolved to make available all new books, chapters, and articles beginning January 2004, and to add older publications as rapidly as possible. At the start of 2004 the collection contained over 7,000 publications, making it the largest freely available collection of online forestry research in the world.
There are presently over 24,000 publications in Treesearch. The Treesearch home page lists the current number of publications
available.
Before Treesearch, each of the regional Stations handled distribution of their publications differently. The result is an initial unevenness in representation by the various Stations. This should diminish as we add new and existing publications to the database. Searching
Treesearch lets you search listings by author, keyword, originating Station or date. Keyword searches examine both the title and abstract. See the Help page for more information on how to use the search functions.
Full-Text
Once you have selected a publication, you can view and print the entire publication online. That's because all publications listed in Treesearch have their full text available online, usually in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF).
In some cases, the publications have been scanned from the original, a process that can result in errors. For this reason some publications offer two PDF versions, a compact file with captured text plus a larger pristine
version where text is represented graphically. Either way, your computer will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to view and print the document. See Adobe’s Acrobat Reader Download Page if you need this free plug-in.
Restrictions
U.S. copyright regulations require that publications by the federal government or authored by federal employees must be made available in the public domain. If restrictions on use apply to any of the publications in Treesearch, those restrictions will be spelled out at the end of the full text article.
