Celebrate Bicentennial of President Lincoln’s Birth With Your National Parks

Join the National Park Service in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln. The Park Service is holding events surrounding the anniversary and throughout 2009. It has also developed a Web site about our 16th president and the parks that tell his story.

Feb. 12, 2009, marks the bicentennial of the birth of our nation’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. To celebrate the National Park Service is inviting everyone to learn more about Lincoln through their national parks. The Park Service preserves and manages park units that tell stories of Lincoln’s birthplace and boyhood, family and presidential experiences, death and later commemorations. Some of the parks planning special events and activities around this anniversary follow:

The Park Service has planned events throughout 2009 that will provide opportunities to celebrate the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth. For a current list of events, go to http://www.nps.gov/pub_aff/lincoln200/events.html.

In addition, the Park Service has developed a Web site, “Celebrate the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s Birth.” At http://www.nps.gov/pub_aff/lincoln200/index.html, you can gain a better understanding and appreciation for Lincoln and learn more about the national parks that him. The site also includes information on books, photographs and documents related to Lincoln, as well as a link to the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
