Description of the PMC Service
Area
The Jimmy Carter Plant Materials
Center serves NRCS field offices, public agencies, commercial seed and plant
producers, and the general public in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and parts
of Florida, and Tennessee. These states present a wide range of climatic and
soil conditions and include a total of 14 major land
resource areas (MLRAs) representing over 120 million acres across the
southeastern United States. Elevations in the service area range from sea level
to 6,000 feet above sea level. Temperatures range from a low of -20 degrees in
the mountains to a high of 110 degrees. The frost-free growing season varies
from 130 days in the mountains to more than 230 days along the coast. Annual
rainfall over the area ranges from 45 inches to 80 inches.
Getting to the Jimmy Carter PMC
The Jimmy Carter PMC is located in the southwestern part of Georgia,
approximately 130 mile south of Atlanta. To get there, take US Hwy. 19 north
from Americus approximately 1/2 mile. Turn left on Patton Drive and continue
