Current Research

Hardwood quality, markets, and processing research.

Why is This Important

Hardwood quality is impacted by many factors, including forest management practices. Quality in turn affects hardwood utilization potential which frequently dictates what forest landowners can and will do with their forest resources. Improvements in processing hardwood products can lead to conversion efficiencies which allow U.S. manufacturers to operate more profitably which should allow for a larger portion of our nation?s demand for wood products to be met by domestic supplies rather than draining the forest resources of other countries.
