The Office of Congressional Relations (OCR) serves as the Departments liaison with Members of Congress and their staffs. OCR works closely with members and staffs of various House and Senate Committees including the House Agriculture Committee and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry to communicate USDAs legislative agenda and budget proposals.
The USDA Office of External and Intergovernmental Affairs (OEIA) works closely with the Nation's Governors, State Commissioners of Agriculture, other State and local elected officials, and key leaders of national and local organizations on issues affecting America's food and agriculture. The office plays a key role in disseminating information related to the implementation of USDA policies and procedures. It also serves as a link to resources that can accurately address questions and concerns.
USDA recognizes the important role that Agriculture plays in the economic health of many rural areas. The Office of External and Intergovernmental Affairs serves as a contact point for national and local organizations, as well as leaders at all levels of government while also functioning as a liaison with the White House and other executive branch agencies and departments. The overall goal is to ensure that accurate information is relayed in an efficient and effective manner. By working in cooperation with Governors, State Commissioners of Agriculture, and key leaders in the private industry, USDA can ensure a safe, secure, and affordable supply of food and fiber for all Americans.
