Whole Farm Nutrient Balance
Overview: Understanding the whole farm's nutrient balance as well as the sources of nutrient inputs is critical to identifying a nutrient management strategy for reducing an imbalance and achieving an environmentally sustainable operation. This measuring tool can identify livestock and poultry operations that are accumulating or concentrating excess nutrients and evaluating the environmental benefit of alternative nutrient management strategies.

Nutrient Inventory
Overview: This file estimates for an animal feeding operation 1) the amount of N, P, and total quantity of manure excreted by animal feeding, 2) the quantity of available nutrients after storage and land application losses, and 3) the land requirement for utilizing remaining nutrients at an agronomic rate. The estimates of excretion are based upon a new national ASABE standard released in 2005. The estimate of land requirements are based upon a USDA NRCS procedure discussed in their Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook, Chapter 11 (http://www.wsi.nrcs.usda.gov/products/W2Q/AWM/docs/handbk/awmfh-chap11.pdf)

Manure Use Plan
Overview: The Manure Utilization Planner was designed to assist a producer in estimating the nutrient value of manure and accurately crediting those nutrients against the nutrient requirements of a crop. This information is combined with other fertilizer and nutrient credits for determing a nitrogen and phosphorus balance on individual fields. Finally, the Planner will provide a summary Action Plan for the recommended manure and fertilizer application rates selected by the producer.

Nebraska Manure Value Calculator, ver. 1.33
This spreadsheet eases the calculations described in the NebGuide 1519 Calculating the Value of Manure for Crop Production making 'what if' simulations easier. The spreadsheet calculates the value of a manure source for a specific field. Manure nutrients that are needed and available for future years are given value, as is the build-up of P and K to the upper limit of agronomic value. The value of other benefits such as yield increases can be included and fertilizer prices can be changed easily depending on the current market.

Relevance to NE Title 130: This information can be used to determine the value of manure transferred "offsite". Transfers "Offsite" must be documented, however the "value" of the product does not.

Manure Management Planner and Plan Generator
Overview: Manure Management Planner (MMP) is a program developed at Purdue University for making nutrient management plans for crop and animal feeding operations. The user enters information about the operation's fields, crops, storage, animals, and application equipment. The user allocates manure to fields on a monthly basis for the duration of the plan (1-10 years) and thereby determines if the land available for manure application, manure storage facilities, and application equipment are sufficient to manage the manure produced in an environmentally responsible manner.

MMP Document Generators (Part 1), (Part 2), NE CNMP
Overview: The Document Generators are planning tools that work with the Manure Management Planner (MMP) in development of either: a comprehensive nutrient management plan (CNMP) as required in an application for approval of construction or major modification of a livestock waste control facility; or in creating an annual manure use plan (AMUP) or an annual nutrient management plan (Title 130: Chapter 4 005.04; Chapter 14). The generated plans also provide guidelines and forms for CAFO record-keeping. MS WORD files are created and easily edited by the planner.

Spatial Nutrient Management Planner (SNMP)
Overview: SNMP is a decision support tool that facilitates the use of spatial information in nutrient management planning. With SNMP, you can: map farm and field boundaries and setback areas; determine sizes of fields, management units, and areas available for manure application; and map fields according to soil test data. It interacts with Purdue’s Manure Management Planner and NRCS’s Customer Service Toolkit. ArcView 3.x is required to run SNMP.

Nebraska P Index (rev. 11/28/07)
Overview: The Nebraska P Index (2005) is a spreadsheet tool for: assessment of the risk of P loss from agricultural land to surface waters; land management planning; evaluation of management practices; education of factors contributing to P loss; and regulation of P application to agricultural land. As of October 2005, this P index is under review pending NDEQ approval.
