The Seed Biotechnology
Center at the University of California Davis
recognizes University
Research Partner
Dr.
Eduardo Blumvald
Dr. Eduardo Blumwald is a Professor of
Cell Biology and the Will W. Lester Chair in the
Department of Plant Sciences at UC Davis.
Dr. Blumwald’s research is primarily focused on
identifying the cellular network required for the
activation of adaptive responses of plants to stress.
Genes encoding proteins which play a fundamental role in
the adaption and survival of plants to high salinity and
drought are of primary interest. Several collaborative
projects Dr. Blumwald has recently been involved in
include:
-
Development of drought tolerant crops with CGIAR and
UC Discovery funding
-
Acid
and sugar homeostasis in citrus fruits in
partnership with the US-Israel Agricultural Research
and Development Fund
-
Genetic engineering for increased salt tolerance in
wheat, funded through the National Academy of
Sciences and Pakistan- US STCP
-
Identification of the gene networks and metabolic
pathways involved in the responses of plants to a
combination of environmental stresses with funding
from the National Sciences Foundation
In
addition, Dr. Blumwald serves on the editorial board of
several journals (including JBC, TIPS, and Molecular
Plant) and he is the editor- in-chief of Plant Science.
