Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped

The Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) provides on free loan recorded books and magazines, equipment to play the recordings, large print books, and described videos.

Western Pennsylvania residents of any age who are unable to read standard print materials because of a visual disability, physical disability, or physically-based reading disability may be eligible to receive this service. Materials are mailed to the borrower's home in postage-free containers.

LBPH also offers reader advisory services, answers reference questions about disabilities and related topics, and maintains a collection of print and video materials on blindness, visual impairment, and physical disabilities.

LBPH is a network library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), a department of the Library of Congress. NLS provides most braille and recorded materials and playback equipment. Large print books and described videos are purchased with contributions.

LBPH is administered for Western Pennsylvania by Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh with funds provided by Pennsylvania through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.
