'Morning Calm' is an exceptionally hardy selection of Campsis grandiflora, sometimes also called Trumpet Creeper. It is a 2002 winner of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Gold Medal Plant Award for its outstanding qualities and performance in the mid-Atlantic states. It is a vigorous, self-clinging deciduous woody vine which typically grows 20-30' high. The rich trumpet-shaped 4 to 5 inch flowers combine soft shades of orange, peach, and melon with yellow throats and pinkish veins (above, left) and bloom in big clusters on new growth in early June and hang off the branch tips of this restrained vine all summer long. The attractive, coarsely toothed, pinnate dark green leaves show chocolate-purple fall foliage (above, right). It is hardy in USDA Hardiness Zones 6 through 9. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and the flowers are attractive to hummingbirds. The rapid-growing vine provides excellent cover for fences, walls, arbors or large trellises.
