It is one of two species of witchhazel that are native to the United States. It is better known for its clear yellow fall color than for its flowers, which are smaller and less conspicuous than those of other witchhazels. The flowers are pungently fragrant and appear in winter or early spring. Vernal Witchhazel can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 4 through 8. You can find vernal witchhazel in the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum and in the Fern Valley Native Plant Collection. |
