POSITION:  Research Testing Assistant

Monsanto, an ag industry leader creating scientific breakthroughs around the world, is seeking highly motivated individuals with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary corn research team at the Manhattan, Kansas corn research station.

Incumbent will assist in overseeing daily operations associated with a comprehensive corn testing program. This will consist of field operations and equipment operation for planting, harvesting and seed processing as well as maintenance and modification as needed of that equipment. Other important functions will be to assist in computer related activities, including data collection and management. Incumbent will also be expected to supervise and train seasonal and temporary employees. Responsibilities will include providing needed support to the Line Development and Commercial Breeding Teams and assisting with site safety requirements.

Localized travel is required, including the possibility of multi-week travel to winter nursery sites and to off-site research locations.

In addition to our standard background check and substance abuse test, this position is subject to a driving record background check. An offer of employment for these positions is contingent upon passing all three tests.

Required Experience/Education/Attributes:

  • BS or comparable degree in agronomy, plant science or a related discipline.
  • 4 or more years of experience with seed research applications may be substituted for the degree completion.

Desired Experience/Education/Attributes:

  • Familiarity with breeding and research methodologies, experimental plot and breeding nursery management and sound agronomic practices are desirable. 
  • Proficiency with standard office and spreadsheet software is required with the desire to learn and implement proprietary database software. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills are essential.
  • The ability to obtain a Class A CDL is also desirable.
