The Hilton Concord Hotel is located at the center of San Francisco’s East Bay. Enjoy an extensive park system, convenient shopping, as well as large preserves of scenic open space. The hotel is easily accessible by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) or East Bay Connection Airport Shuttle Service.

Rooms can be reserved at the Hilton Concord Hotel by calling toll free at 1-800-HILTONS or 925-827-2000. Reservations can also be made online. Be sure to mention you’re attending the WHC meeting to get the reduced group rate. WHC meeting rates are:

single/double occupancy…$149.00/per night (plus applicable state and local taxes)

There is limited space reserved at this rate on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please make your reservations by Monday, April 21, 2008, to increase your chances of securing this rate.

Local Attractions

What to do in San Francisco's East Bay? Visit some great attractions in the city take a short trip out to the surrounding beautiful countryside. Located 30 miles east of San Francisco, Concord blends neighborhood living with a dynamic city center. The following Web sites have links to natural areas, directions and sights: 

Briones Park
With its rolling, grassy hills and secluded, shady canyons, Briones is a secret wilderness surrounded by the towns of central Contra Costa County.

Carquinez Strait Regional Seashore 
Comprising almost 2800 acres of scenic vistas and shoreline, the bluffs of the Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline offer a panoramic view from Mt. Tamalpais to the west to Mt. Diablo to the east. Recreational activities include hiking, horseback riding, birdwatching and mountain biking.

Ecology Center 
Stop in to this vital and vibrant center to pick up books and DVDs on environmental issues, or to grab fact sheets on how to use less and reuse more. Also find home decor such as vases made from recycled materials and the safest, least-polluting interior house paints on the market. Projects based at the Ecology Center include the
Plastics Task Force, Bay Area Seed Interchange Library and Berkeley Community Gardening Collaborative.

Lindsay Wildlife Museum
With one of the United States' largest wildlife rehabilitation centers, thousands of injured or orphaned animals are treated annually at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum. Its 8,000 square foot exhibit hall houses several species of live wild animals.

Mt. Diablo State Park
Standing on the eastern fringe of San Francisco bay, Mt. Diablo offers a completely unobstructed view of the bay from Mt. Lassen to the Golden Gate Bridge.

USFWS California Least Tern
The California least tern (Sterna antillarum browni) nests in colonies along the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay. This migratory seabird bird was federally listed as endangered in 1970, state endangered in 1971.
