The World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), founded in 2000, is the flagship programme of UN-Water. Housed in UNESCO, WWAP monitors freshwater issues in order to provide recommendations, develop case studies, enhance assessment capacity at a national level and inform the decision-making process. Its primary product, the World Water Development Report (WWDR), is a periodic, comprehensive review providing an authoritative picture of the state of the world’s freshwater resources.

On 12 November in Barcelona, Spain, the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia (UNESCOCAT) and Caixa Catalunya’s Community Projects Department presented two new interactive teaching tools that educate students about the status of the world’s freshwater resources. The first, ‘Water in the Twenty First Century’, is a series of posters and accompanying activities based on the second World Water Development Report, targeting students at secondary and higher education levels. The second tool, a computer game for upper primary and secondary students, allows students to explore and test their knowledge of the important lessons about water that are presented in the documentary ‘A Dream of Water’.
