20th Annual Symposium
20/20 Vision:
Celebrating the Past,
Looking to the Future

Thank you to all the members, partners and individuals who made the Wildlife Habitat Council's 20th Annual Symposium, 20/20 Vision: Celebrating the Past, Looking to the Future, a huge success!  Enthusiasm was in the air, as WHC celebrated its 20th Anniversary celebration.

Congratulations to the 2008 international conservation award nominees and winners.  These dedicated members, volunteers and partners demonstrate excellence in the areas of wildlife habitat enhancement and restoration.

The first of our two keynote speakers was Lawrence O'Donnell, III, president and chief operating officer of Waste Management.  Mr. O'Donnell provided attendees with his unique perspective on the benefits of WHC programs for a corporation committed to leading the way in environmental stewardship.

Monique Barbut, CEO of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), was our second keynote speaker.  Ms. Barbut provided an overview of GEF's biodiversity strategy, as well as her views on the critical role the private sector plays in addressing global environmental challenges in partnership with the GEF.

The "One Wild World" show, sponsored by Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., was this year's live animal ambassador show and featured furry, feathered and scaly animal ambassadors from SeaWorld and Busch Gardens.  WHC also presented its annual Pollinator Breakfast, which treated attendees to foods made possible by pollinators, as well as the 20th Annual Banquet and International Awards Ceremony.

Indeed there is a Green Wave sweeping our society in general and business in particular. A number of corporate led initiatives are being pursued individually by companies, and others are being conducted in concert with national and international business associations. The wave of corporate sustainability is gaining national attention in the media and how WHC is working with our members to incorporate sustainable practices and achieve practical goals.
