Diabrotica virgifera, the Western Corn Rootworm

This site is intended to serve as a central reference point for information about the Corn Rootworm Beetle in the midwestern United States. The Western Corn Rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera LeConte (shown above) and the Northern Corn Rootworm, Diabrotica barberi Smith and Lawrence, are both important pests of corn in the Midwest. If you have contributions for this page, please contact John VanDyk.

The Corn Insect Research Project, headed by Jon Tollefson, looks at new chemical and biological tools to use in rootworm integrated pest management.
