    Establishes procedures for conducting an accurate nutrient analysis. It is developed for school food authorities conducting their own nutrient analysis and for state agencies conducting SMI reviews.

    This voluntary Federal program evaluates manufactured product formulations to confirm the contribution they make toward meal pattern requirements. Manufacturers are able to state this contribution on their labels and are protected against audit claims for purchasers of Child Nutrition labeled products.

    Commercial Item Descriptions (CID) are simplified product descriptions that concisely describe salient characteristics of commercial products. CIDs are official U.S. Government procurement documents that are 1) uniquely numbered in a Federal series; 2) prominently dated for easy reference; and 3) appropriately titled (according to current Federal labeling policies.
