Abstract: Results of the 2004 annual inventory of Illinois show an estimated 4.4 million acres of forest land that supports 7.7 billion cubic feet of total net volume of all live trees. Since 1948, timberland area has steadily increased and now represents 96 percent of total forest land. Growing-stock volume on timberland has risen to an estimated 6.7 billion cubic feet. All live aboveground tree biomass on timberland is estimated at 204 million dry tons. Asian longhorned beetle, oak wilt, gypsy moth, and fall webworm are among Illinois' forest health concerns.
