To honor Louisiana’s NRCS Earth Team volunteers who work with the agency and Louisiana’s 44 soil and water conservation districts, an American flag was flown over the nation’s Capitol in April during National Volunteer Week.  The flag was framed recently by NRCS Louisiana State Volunteer Coordinator Vickie Fontenot and presented to Don Gohmert (then) Louisiana State Conservationist.

“This is a special recognition truly deserved by these volunteer conservationists,” explained Gohmert.  “During this past year in Louisiana, 546 volunteers donated over 31,000 hours to help conserve the State’s natural resources through field and office work.

“We are very proud to have had this flag fly over the nation’s Capitol recognizing our volunteers,” Gohmert concluded.  “The Earth Team is a vital part of our overall conservation effort.  We hope that National Volunteer Week served to motivate others to donate their time and talents helping people help the land.”
