Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Food Safety and Epidemiology: Practical Approaches for Food Protection

This program element is in partnership with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), at the Department of Health and Human Services. FDA is committed to reducing the incidence of food-borne illness to the greatest extent possible, and to protecting the integrity of the nation's food supply. CSREES and FDA support research that includes, but is not limited to: 1) improving the detection and quantification of food-borne contaminants (pathogens, toxins, and chemicals) that could jeopardize the safety and security of the food supply; 2) finding new and improved ways to control food-borne contaminants; and 3) safely producing, processing and handling food and food products. These research activities often provide information critical to food safety guidance and policymaking. This program makes single function research awards.
